IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS
Three cloud service models. IaaS = rent servers (you manage OS/runtime/app). PaaS = rent platform (you manage app/data). SaaS = use software (provider manages everything).
Overview
Overview IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS are the three fundamental cloud service delivery models, differing in how much the provider manages vs how much the customer manages.
- IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service): Rent raw compute, storage, and networking. You manage everything from the OS up. Think: renting an empty apartment — you bring your own furniture.
- PaaS (Platform as a Service): Rent a development platform. You manage only the application and data. Think: renting a fully furnished workspace.
- SaaS (Software as a Service): Use complete software delivered over the internet. You manage nothing — just use the application. Think: staying in a hotel.
