Google Research
Research blog posts from Google covering search, ML, load balancing, and large-scale data processing.
Overview
Google Research is the publication arm of the company that invented MapReduce, BigTable, Spanner, and the Transformer, and the blog continues to translate academic-grade CS into systems that serve a planet of users. The strongest threads are stochastic load balancing and queueing theory applied to real fleets, low-latency analytics over hundreds of billions of events per day, and ML applied where most companies use heuristics, like routing in Google Maps. For system-design prep, 'Load balancing with random job arrivals' is the model answer for any 'design a load balancer' question that goes beyond round-robin, and 'Answering billions of reporting queries each day with low latency' maps directly to designing a real-time analytics system.
