LinkedIn Engineering

Engineering blog from LinkedIn covering recommendations, data infrastructure, search, and large-scale graph systems.

Overview

LinkedIn runs the world's largest professional graph at over a billion members, and many of the open-source pillars of modern data infrastructure — Kafka, Voldemort, Pinot, Samza — were born here. The blog goes deepest on three fronts: graph recommendations against a billion-vertex member graph (the People You May Know candidate-generation pipeline), big-data infrastructure run at extreme scale including a 10,000-plus-node Hadoop YARN cluster and the OpenHouse table service, and embeddings-driven matching that powers job-seeker recommendations and feed ranking. For interviews, 'Candidate Generation in a Large Scale Graph Recommendation System' is the article to read before any social-graph design question, and 'Scaling LinkedIn's Hadoop YARN cluster beyond 10,000 nodes' is a great primer on multi-tenant resource scheduling.
